Each of these types are unique in their own way. And each comes in different varieties that are suited to different climate and conditions, so you can find plants that are best for your situation.
1. Cherry tomatoes. These miniatures are a tiny version of our favorite fruit. In fact, the flavor-packed, bite-sized snack is a standard addition to salads, salsas, platters, grilled recipes, and all kinds of summery dishes. Plus, they are fun to grow!
2. Roma tomatoes. Like tomato sauce? Dried tomatoes? Gardeners grow Roma tomatoes for canning, sauces, tomato paste, roasting, and drying. And rightly so. Roma tomatoes are a type of plum tomato and as such have less water content and fewer seeds than other varieties. They’re not juicy. Rather, a Roma’s thick flesh makes it good for cooking. And cooking intensifies their flavor.
3. Beefsteak tomatoes. The giants of the tomato patch have a meaty texture. If you’ve ever cut a thick tomato slice that covers an entire piece of bread, you understand the fascination with beefsteak tomatoes. Fruits can mature up to 4 pounds.
